Description

The MBSD Meerschaum Silver is our line of silver mounted meerschaum pipes. Using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish meerschaum found on our Deluxe series, these pipes exclusively feature silver army mounts, ferrules, or spigot mounts.

The blowfish has been a staple of artisan briar pipes for many years, having been first conceived by the legendary Lars Ivarsson. Ivarsson was, of course, the son of the Scandinavian pipe pioneer Sixten Ivarsson, and is arguably one of the few figures to have ever exceeded his father’s creativity, skill, and acclaim. While Lars had his own, relatively set way of making blowfishes, many an artisan since his time has taken the form in new and novel directions, to the extent that a broader category, the fish, now serves as a catch-all for many adjacent designs.

This particular MBSD Meerschaum takes inspiration from the Scandinavian blowfish but, rather than those of Lars, its shaping leans closer to the third generation in the Ivarsson dynasty, represented by Lars’s daughter, Nanna. Simultaneously plump and fluid in stature, it has a great sense of forward motion to it, just as the blowfishes of the likes of Nanna, Jess Chonowitsch, or S. Bang tend to do. The finishing, on the other hand, is far more Turkish, with the pipe sporting a hand-carved latticework of teardrop patterns. Another notable divergence from most briars is the pipe’s inclusion of a reverse calabash system nestled in its chamber, providing an even cooler, drier smoke.

This pipe comes with a custom-fitted hard case.
