Description

Much like the MBSD Meerschaum Silver and Silver Cap lines, the Double Silver is comprised exclusively of sterling silver-mounted meerschaum. But, as the name suggests, Double Silver pipes are mounted not once, but twice. Each features a sterling silver cap at its rim, protecting the bowl and chamber from slips of the flame and lava build-up, as well as a sterling silver fitment at the shank end, typically in the form of an army mount. Each is made using the same high-grade, fast-coloring Turkish block meerschaum found on our other various meerschaum lines, but with even more finery than any of the meers we’ve offered thus far.

Long-time visitors to MBSD Pipes will know how much I enjoy blending various shapes and styles for our meerschaum pipe designs, especially those of the briar artisan scene, and this one is certainly no exception. Taking the form of a bulbous, “mushrooming” hybrid of acorn, Dublin, and Rhodesian shapes, it’s a rather “Danish” design, influenced by the unmistakably plump compositions of masters such as Jens Tao Nielsen and Nanna Ivarsson. In addition to its twin silver mounts, the pipe also features something far less common in such pipes, a reverse calabash system in its shank, which should provide an even cooler, drier smoke than a standard-bore briar or meerschaum pipes
