Description
At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.
In addition to their functional improvements, one thing that we’ve always been interested in when it comes to our meerschaum pipes is expanding our design portfolio. In particular, we’re always looking to including new shapes that either aren’t commonly associated with the medium, or which have been transformed in the last half century via the briar artisan scene.
This one is a particularly good example of that endeavor. While there have long been meerschaum pipes in the family of the traditional billiard—large, small, bent, nosewarmer, and so on—long shapes are still vastly underrepresented across the medium. If you’re familiar with handmade Italian briars, you’ll know that it’s quite the opposite with those, however, with extra long, long shank shapes being a veritable institution. This MBSD Meerschaum Deluxe was partly inspired by those Italian briars, such as the pipes of Brebbia, Don Carlos, Claudio Cavicchi, and Ardor, with the result being a Liverpool rendition of near-magnum proportions. As an added bonus, this Liverpool was carved from extra-high-grade translucent block meerschaum, which should prove advantageous in giving color to the furthest reaches of its figure.
This pipe comes with a custom-fitted clam-shell hard case.
