Description
At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.
Some of the best-selling shapes in our MBSD Meerschaum catalog are, oddly enough, Rhodesian renditions modeled on 20th century briars. From thick American bullcaps, to broad-bowled Dunhill homages, to princely French-style pieces, it would appear that what works for briar in this vein also very much works for meerschaum. This is another example of an MBSD Meerschaum Rhodesian, a slightly squat, very traditional rendition, though in this instance it has a little something extra going for it. While all of our meerschaums are made from high-grade block meerschaum, this one is made from extra-high-grade “translucent meerschaum,” famous for its unrivaled lightness, purity, porosity, and the speed at which it colors. If you look closely, you’ll see that the bowl is not perfectly white, but has a slight marbled appearance, which is one of its hallmarks.
We’ve had quite a few requests for filtered meers recently, so this pipe is also chambered to allow for the use of a 9mm filter (whether charcoal, balsa or meerschaum), if so desired.
