At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.
While we sell meerschaum pipes in a range of shapes and styles, poker renditions are probably the best selling shapes in our catalog. This is hardly a surprise, as the humble poker is beloved by pipe smokers of all tastes, not least thanks to their minimalist charm and superlative practicality. One specific genre of pokers has been especially popular of late, however, owing to an unexpected and very generous review from a prominent figure in the YouTube Pipe Community.
If you’ve watched videos from Johnny Layton, aka The Whittling Piper, you may have seen him smoking a stout, tankard-style poker from our MBSD Meerschaum Deluxe line. Since Johnny made those videos, we’ve had countless emails asking to buy a pipe just like his, and while we normally don’t do custom orders, we thought it would be a good idea to get some batches of them in. And, as a small tribute to the man responsible for their sudden surge in popularity, we decided to give these tankard pokers a dedicated name in our catalog—the “Whittler.”
This pipe comes with a custom-fitted hard case.
