At MBSD we sell a lot of high-grade, high-quality pipes from various iconic makes, but some of the pipes we’re most proud of are our meerschaums. Right from the beginning, we wanted to offer the best smoking meers on the market, and to do this, we had them made with two distinct features. First, we made sure that they were made with block meerschaum that was carefully selected to be the most lightweight, pure, and porous available, meaning it would also color more quickly and evenly as it is smoked. Second, for our Deluxe meerschaums, we had the pipes made with a patented Briar-Mortise system that is closer to the stem connection on a briar pipe than a standard meerschaum. This is because, on our Deluxe models, the mortise is made from briar itself, while the tenons used are made from Delrin. This allows for more precision construction of the pipe’s draft hole, as well as a general extra durability and longevity.

The calabash is an old shape in the history of pipe design, one whose origins precede many of the materials used in modern pipe making. But it’s also a shape whose charm and functionality have ensured its survival, even amongst the vast expansion of forms brought by the 20th century. The history of meerschaum itself is intimately tied to that of the calabash, too, though while some of the oldest examples featured large, two-piece bowls, with materials such as gourd making up the main body of the pipe, more contemporary renditions tend toward a one-piece design. Such is the case with this one; its flowing, flaring figure is unmistakably that of the calabash, but in a much lighter and more portable form, allowing it to be smoked anywhere that pipes are permitted.

This pipe comes with a custom-fitted hard case.
