Description
A former student of both Gabriele dal Fiume and Domenico “Mimmo” Romeo, Massimo Damini is one of a number of highly talented, independent Italian artisans to have emerged in the 21st century. Damini took up pipe making in 2009 and was rather ahead of the curve in terms of a distinct trend in Italy’s artisan pipe community, one that eschewed the typically Italian styles of its great factories and workshops, looking instead to Scandinavia, Japan, and the United States for sources of inspiration.
This Damini, for example, is a rather lovely rendition of the Danish blowfish shape pioneered by Lars Ivarsson, though it also incorporates additional asymmetric elements more common to Japanese approaches to the former. It’s also delightfully compact, while retaining the shape’s signature plump figure, making it perfect for stowing in one’s pocket when out and about.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. There’s a few small scratches on the underside of the shank, though nothing major.
