Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

While it may look like a meerschaum, the Kaywoodie White Briar was, as the name suggests, in fact simply a briar pipe finished with a glossy white stain. There were two reasons for such a design: the first, and most obvious, was that the pipes were intended to emulate the look of meerschaum pipes, while providing the functional comforts of briar; the second (and somewhat ironically, given the first) was that the resilience of the finish would retain its original, snow-white appearance over time, rather than fall prey to handling marks or other things that could affect said appearance. So, if you want a briar that looks like a meerschaum, this might just be perfect for you; conversely if you want a meerschaum that looks more like a briar (at least in shape), might I recommend our MBSD Deluxe Meerschaums…?

In all seriousness, though, it’s a very nice pipe, and the condition is very good, too. True to its word, this White Briar has kept nearly all of its original luster, save for some wear to the finish around the rim.
