Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
In the mid-1950s, Kaywoodie debuted a unique bit design for some of their pipes, known as the “Stembiter.” The name was more of a reference to a particular subset of pipe smokers than to the pipe itself, but the design itself was intended to suit one problem among such individuals: accidentally biting the end off of a vulcanite pipe stem. The Stembiter had a specially notched bit, with three draft channels, intended to mitigate such calamities. Around a decade later came the Durobit, the next evolution of the Stembiter. Instead of three draft channels, the Durobit had two, but was similarly designed to allow for a thicker, more durable bit, while also providing the slightly cooler-smoking benefits of a regular twin-bore mouthpiece.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
