Jeremiah Sandahl Sandblasted Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
Being a pipe smoker is not easy on one’s wallet. It seems that, however many pipes one has, there is always another that one does not [yet] have. Minnesota artisan initially took up pipe making to solve that problem—not for others, but for himself. Carving pipes from hobby kits was the most cost effective way of acquiring his next smoker. As it turns out, he enjoyed the endeavor immensely, and sought out guidance from established artisans to refine his techniques. After being mentored by American master Walt Cannoy, Sandahl started making a name for himself, to the point where, for many, the irresistible urge to acquire “just one more pipe” referred to a Jeremial Sandahl.
I would have to think that this Jeremiah Sandahl billiard was rusticated prior to sandblasting, as the texturing on it is really something else. I’m reminded a little of the old Ashton Pebble Shell, which used a combination of hand-rustication and blasting to achieve its signature look and feel. Given that Sandahl was mentored by Walt Cannoy, a great experimenter when it comes to novel finishes, it wouldn’t surprise me if the latter’s innovative spirit rubbed off on the former in some way or another. Either way, it’s a beautifully gnarly result.
The condition is very good. Some darkening and general wear on the rim.
