Description
Georg Jensen was a Danish pipe company founded by Per Jensen Sr. in 1954. Along with Bari, Kriswill, and Stanwell, Georg Jensen was one of the preeminent makes behind the international proliferation of ‘Danish’ style pipes in the second half of the 20th century. A family business, the reins of Georg Jensen were later passed down to Jensen Sr.’s son, Per Jensen Jr., and daughter, Lis. Georg Jensen would finally close in 2001, when Per Jensen Jr. joined the Mac Baren company as its head blender.
Taking its name from the Danish for “ruby,” Georg Jensen’s Rubin was the make’s flagship line for pipes dressed in a deep, reddish finish, with the option of a silver trim for some extra class. This 05 is an example of the latter, taking the form of a fairly traditional Anglo-French billiard, albeit with a slightly Danish, tulip-like bowl and slender profile.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, having come to us in a large new old stock lot from a closed shop in Europe. There’s a few very minor scratches on the bowl, but nothing major.
