Georg Jensen Mira Smooth Bent Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

Georg Jensen was a Danish pipe company founded by Per Jensen Sr. in 1954. Along with Bari, Kriswill, and Stanwell, Georg Jensen was one of the preeminent makes behind the international proliferation of ‘Danish’ style pipes in the second half of the 20th century. A family business, the reins of Georg Jensen were later passed down to Jensen Sr.’s son, Per Jensen Jr., and daughter, Lis. Georg Jensen would finally close in 2001, when Per Jensen Jr. joined the Mac Baren company as its head blender.

We’d not had any Georg Jensen pipes come in for a while, and now suddenly two come in at once—and both unsmoked, no less. This one is a little more Danish than the last, though more in the vein of the early Danish neoclassical carvers, like Poul Rasmussen or Emil Chonowitsch, than the more modern pipes that followed. The design is one of a slightly large bent Dublin, with a supple quarter-bend, a rounded out, convex rim, and a deep contrast red finish to tie it all together. Despite its size, it’s by no means heavy, meaning it may well be a comfortable clench for seasoned pipe smokers.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, having come to us in a large new old stock lot from a closed shop in Europe.
