Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
The Fiammata is an old sub-brand of Savinelli’s, one that was for pipes that would otherwise have been part of the make’s ultra-high-end Giubileo d’Oro series. Much like the Comoy’s Selected Straight Grain, a Savinelli stummel would become a Fiammata if, during the final stages of manufacture, a small, cosmetic imperfection was discovered, making it not suitable for a Giubileo d’Oro but, nonetheless, very beautiful pipe. Aside from some very minor irregularities on the right side of the bowl, this one is a genuinely impressive looking pipe, with tight, straight grain that surpasses many of the main-line Savinelli smooths I’m used to seeing.
The condition is good. Some inner rim darkening and a few small scratches on the bowl.
