Ed Burak Connoisseur XL Smooth Diamond Shank Egg Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

Out of stock

Description

Known as the “dean of American pipe designers” Ed Burak was not a pipe-maker per se. Rather, Burak was someone who worked with the master carvers of his time to bring his distinct ideas of what a pipe could be to life. As the owner of the Connoisseur Pipe Shop, Burak designed freehand pipes so singularly representative of pipe-making as an artistic endeavor, that many of the resulting works ended up in New York’s Museum of Modern Art.

As I mentioned in another recent listing, if there’s two things I associate with Ed Burak’s pipes, it’s tall bowls and deep bends. And, just like that pipe, this one features both of those things, arguably even more so. This one is a full bent design, mixing equal parts Danish style egg (e.g., Sixten Ivarsson, Gert Holbek), the traditional Oom Paul, and arguably a slightly Charatan freehand component, owing to its diamond shank and saddle stem. Whichever way you look at it, it is a big, beautiful pipe.

The condition is very good.
