To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.

As a high-end pipe company with an eminently traditional bent, Dunhill has a long history of crafting pipes with ornate mounts. While Dunhill’s standard offerings are luxurious, customers looking for something even more special have long had the option of purchasing sterling silver, or even solid gold, mounted pipes, typically in the form of collars, army fitments, or spigot fitments. Around the 1980s, Dunhill also introduced the Bell Spigot, an army fitment cut from vulcanite and, even more recently, there have been rare instances of Dunhill pipes with horn ferrules, as in the case of this one from 2009. It’s an interesting choice, as horn is more typically favored by modern, artisan pipe makers, though if it’s good enough for Tom Eltang or J. Alan, you can bet that it’s good enough for Dunhill. The horn ferrule on this bent billiard works especially well when paired with the bowl’s dark, burgundy Bruyere finish, adding yet another element of finery to Dunhill’s most esteemed portfolio.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. There are a couple of scratches on the bowl and some slight weathering to the horn ferrule.
