Dunhill 1998 Shell Briar 6101 Sandblasted Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in the first decade of the 20th century, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the “Rolls-Royce” of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
“Group 6” pipes are among the largest made by Alfred Dunhill Ltd., rivaled only by a few of Dunhill’s “OD” shapes and its near-mythical magnums. Being an eminently traditional make, Dunhill pipes are typically made in eminently traditional proportions, thus group 6 renditions are much rarer than their counterparts in other Dunhill sizes, and come with a substantial premium. This pipe, for example, is essentially a significantly oversized instance of Dunhill’s classic “01” apple, one whose elegant proportions have given the bowl a fullness more common to Danish briars. The pipe is dressed in Dunhill’s signature, dark burgundy sandblast, the Shell Briar, a finish first devised in the 1910s and which has rightly earned its place in the pantheon of pipe designs.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original box, sleeve, inner tube, and papers.
