Dunhill 1972 Shell Briar 92 Army Mount Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
To veteran pipe smokers, Dunhill needs no introduction. Beginning in 1907, Alfred Dunhill began selling Dunhill pipes at the tobacconist shop he owned on London’s Duke Street. Very quickly, these pipes gained the reputation of being the ‘Rolls-Royce’ of pipes due to how expertly crafted they were. Today, Dunhill is likely Britain’s most famous pipe manufacturer, and continues to produce some of the most treasured pipes a smoker can buy.
There are few pipes as elegant as a classic, Anglo-French army mount billiard. And among those renditions there are few as elegant as those of a classic, Anglo-French make like Dunhill. This one, from 1972, combines Dunhill’s signature, near-black, dark burgundy Shell Briar sandblast finish with the gleam of sterling silver, turning something otherwise quite reserved into the perfect dress pipe. Though Dunhill would, shortly after this one was made, introduce a separate line of smooth polished “Dress” pipes, I’ve always been partial to the Shell’s contributions to that genre.
The condition is very good. Some slight charring to the inner rim and minor finish fading.
