Design Berlin XL Spot Carved Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Design Berlin is, as the name suggests, a German pipe-making company – and is in fact the number two best-selling German pipe make after Vauen. Founded in 1948 as Pfeifenstudio Hartmann by Hubert Hartmann, the company adopted the name Design Berlin and the lowercase ‘db’ logo in 1975 as part of a modernization push. In 2019, Design Berlin finally closed after over 70 years in continuous operation.
This looks to be one of Design Berlin’s Handmade series, which explored various different design approaches to the ones typical of their pipes. In this case, the pipe is a large billiard, not unlike the old Peterson House Pipes, with the addition of an usually intricate spot carving of a floral motif at the bowl’s front. A sturdy smoker with a secret, one might say.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. Some minor scratches on the bowl and rim, but nothing major. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
