Description

Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.

For those not in the know, the Grand Slam was a line of pipes by Comoy’s with a special stinger system intended to cool and dry the smoke from the pipe before it entered the smoker’s mouth. It is often the case that, over time, parts of this system will become lost as the pipe passes from one smoker to another – but not in this instance. This Grand Slam not only has its original stinger, but also includes the original leather washer around the end of the stinger, which can be seen in the pictures.

This pipe belongs to the production of Comoy’s pipes from before the make’s merger with Cadogan Investments Ltd.

It’s well preserved; its beautiful, bird’s-eye grain still has a fair amount of sheen and its vulcanite stem is without any significant tooth marks. There is a little bit of darkening around the rim, but it is minor, especially for a pipe like this one.
