Caminetto Business 176 KS Rusticated Egg Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Out of stock

Description

Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Sergio Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, ‘Caminetto.’ Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated “Business,” and the carved, wax-drip “New Dear.”

While the “egg” shape is commonly associated with the great Danish pipe makers of the post-war period, it also has a significant place in Italian pipes, largely due to one particular lineage: Castelllo, Caminetto, Ascorti (and then, also, Caminetto again). While both Danish and Italian eggs lean toward naturalistic shaping, Danish pipes tend to be equal parts supple and bulbous, while Italian renditions tend to be more rugged, and angular, with their closest cousin being the Oom Paul. This extra large, older production Caminetto is a perfect exemplar of the latter, with its large, bolder-like bowl dressed in the workshop’s signature Business rustication and a volcanic, fumed stain.

The condition is mint. I did wonder whether the pipe was unsmoked, but I’ll go with “smoked, but very gently” just in case.
