Description
While not as well known as other Italian pipe brands, Barontini is one of the oldest in the country. Founded in 1890 in Tuscany by Turildo Barontini, the company initially only produced briar, but in 1925, Turildo’s son Bruno shifted the operation to making pipes from this briar. Later, the company was inherited by Cesare Barontini, whose name is most readily associated with Barontini pipe production. Barontini is still operated by Cesare and his wife today.
One of my favorite Barontini lines in recent years was the Padua. Named for the famous Italian city, it featured—as can be seen here—a slight contrast stain over a crisp, partial sandblast finish, complemented by a brass faux spigot and a cumberland-hued acrylic stem. This designs looks to have paired especially well with their “02” Lovat shape, as can also be seen on this one.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original box. It is also chambered to allow for 9mm filters, if one prefers.
