Description
Like many Italian workshop brands, Ardor pipes are a family affair. The name itself is an acronym of Angelo Rovera and Dorelio Rovera, father and son pipe-makers who created the brand in 1972. The Rovera family’s history with pipes goes back much further, however, as Angelo’s own father, Francesco, had previously established the Sociedade Rovera pipe company with his brothers in 1911. All Ardor pipes are completely hand-made from briar that has been seasoned for at least 4-5 years, and the brand is noteworthy for its playful and innovative approaches to design. As a result, Ardor pipes are both quintessentially Italian, while also being somewhat different, having a style that is wholly their own.
Ardor pipes are rarely small, so an oversized Ardor pipe was always going to be a rather substantial piece. But, not unlike the Castello line of the same name, Ardor’s “Big” line features pipes that are, nonetheless, shockingly large. As is quite typical for the Roveras’ work, this poker rendition is not simply a lengthy pipe, but one with a degree of muscle and heft to it that is rarely found outside of high-end workshops (Ardor being one of them), and isn’t even that common inside the workshop scene. Dressed in lesser-seen, tan variant of Ardor’s signature, celestially-inspired Urano finish and accented with a collar of sterling silver, this poker rendition earns its size designation and then some, while also testifying to the notion that Big can indeed be plenty beautiful.
This pipe is completely unsmoked.
