Kiko

Kiko was a tobacco-pipe brand produced by the Kilimanjaro Pipe Company in Tanganyika, part of present-day Tanzania. The company became particularly well known for pipes made from African block meerschaum, a denser variety of the mineral than the meerschaum traditionally mined in Türkiye.

Rather than concentrating on elaborate figural carving, Kiko frequently fashioned African meerschaum into familiar briar-pipe shapes such as billiards, princes, bulldogs, pots, and bent billiards. The company also produced meerschaum-lined briar pipes, leather-wrapped models, and the rugged Caveman series. Numbered shapes and series names can help collectors identify different Kiko designs.

African meerschaum production has been discontinued, making surviving Kiko pipes increasingly collectible.
