Vauen 3315 Smooth Apple Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Though it has a typically German chubbiness, it would be difficult not to look at this shape 3315 and think it was somewhat “Danish.” In fact, I would say it was very Danish. I’m not sure when the shape was designed, but I imagine there was a Scandinavian influence, given the notable similarities between it and the pipes of, say, Jens Tao Nielsen, Nanna Ivarsson, or Stanwell and its “Island” series pipes. Whatever the influence, it’s certainly nice, with an enjoyably plump figure, good grain, and a silver collar for an extra touch of class.
This Vauen is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. There are a couple of small worn out fills, but nothing major. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
