Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
Vauen is less commonly known for its collaborations with famous designers than other makers, such as Stanwell, but the company has nonetheless partnered with quite a few very interesting individuals and companies. These include Oliver Brandt, Radice, Mastro de Paja, and, in the case of this one, Caesare Barontini. The design is a curious one, comprising of a classically-inclined bent apple, but with the bowl “raised” a little higher in relation to the shank than it normally would be, creating a striking profile. This, combined with the briar inlays in the base of the stem, makes for one very interesting pipe.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if one prefers.
