Description
The late Søren Eric Andersen was a Danish artisan who was, until recently, much less known than many of his contemporaries—though, to be fair to him, his contemporaries were very well known. In any case, that has thankfully since changed.
Andersen had a pipe making career that spanned from 1968 until just a few years ago. Along the way, he carved pipes in many legendary workshops, such as those of Erik Nording (where he became friends with Jens Tao Nielsen and Poul Ilsted), Preben Holm, Larsen & Stigart (the one-time supplier of freehand pipes for Dunhill), Ole Zettervig, and W.O. Larsen. In 1975, Andersen went independent, allowing his work to truly shine, and indeed to bear his own name.
This pocket-friendly horn, for example, comes from Andersen’s late period, as evinced by its nomenclature (pipes made during his first period of independence were marked “Eric Andersen”). Beautifully flame grained and accented with fossilized mammoth, it is a lovely example the more subdued, elegant designs of Andersen’s final works.
This pipe is completely unsmoked.
