Description
Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.
In contrast to some of Vauen’s recent, ostentatious—even avant-garde—shapes and finishes, this one is a far more traditional bent brandy, dressed a very crisp, burgundy-black sandblast, with a touch of silver banding its shank end. In other words, it leans closer to Vauen’s origins as a maker of classically inclined pipes. It also has an original P-lip style stem, rather than a standard fishtail, which is another callback to 20th century briars, Vauen included. After all, it isn’t just Peterson that has used such stem designs, with Vauen joined in this regard by makes as varied as WDC, Hilson, and Savinelli. The difference with Vauen is that the P-lip style stem can be used in tandem with a 9mm filter, for an even cooler, drier smoke.
The condition is fair. Some rim darkening. As stated, the pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if its next owner prefers.
