Unknown (Edward’s?) Smooth Freehand Sitter Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates
Out of stock
Description
This pipe came in with a large lot of Edward’s pipes, a significant pipe company in the United States in the 20th century and which Randy Wiley once worked for. As it unstamped, I unfortunately can’t confirm who made the pipe, though it is certainly in the style of Edward’s famous “Algerian Briar” pipes (and indeed of the contemporaneous, nascent American freehand scene). Like many of the Edward’s-brand freehands in that lot, this one is a nicely grained, large sitter of a very interesting design, merging the “leaning” figure of a cherrywood bowl with a sharply rising sharp and an acrylic army mount and stem.
The condition is very good. Minor inner rim darkening and handling marks.
