Stanwell Flame Grain 63 Smooth Dublin w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
The Flame Grain has for a long time occupied a special place in Stanwell’s catalog, being one of the highest grades accorded to its pipes. As the name suggests, the grain of such pipes must be flawless, with consistent vertical patterning suitable for a very light, natural finish. Such is the case with this one, which also happens to be rendered in one of the most classic shapes Stanwell made: the 63 plateaux-topped Dublin, designed in the 1970s by the one and only Sixten Ivarsson. Ivarsson’s “Danish Dublin” shapes were in fact so popular at the time that one catalog featured no fewer than four different variations, though the 63 ultimately survived the longest.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. The pipe comes with its original box and sleeve but, as this is one of Stanwell’s high-grades, the box is a special, flip-top presentation case.
