Ser Jacopo is one of the most famous contemporary examples of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.

Ser Jacopo’s Domina series essentially functions as the workshop’s “pipe of the year,” proceeding via an annual release of special, one-off designs that began in 1996. While other esteemed makes have produced similar, annual offerings since at least the 1960s, Ser Jacopo’s version of this practice tends to result in pipes that throw out all the stops in terms of finish and finery, and which are much more limited in production compared to most of their peers. Ser Jacopo is closer to Dunhill than, say, Savinelli in that regard, with the total annual production of Domina pipes limited to just a few hundred pieces. This particular Domina is the 2005 iteration and the 10th of its kind since 1996. In virtue of this, the design of the pipe was even more spectacular than other Domina releases, taking the form of a voluptuous bent egg with a sterling silver cap and ornate, engraved collar. There’s certainly some Danish influence in the shaping, though with everything else taken into account, one might say that this egg is equal parts Former and Fabergé.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original presentation case, sleeve, and illustrative pamphlet.
