Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The Tevere was one of Savinelli’s many now-discontinued lines and it’s been a good few years since I last saw one. The design is elegant in its simplicity and very much in keeping with the Savinelli style: a light brown finish on the bowl (here in its rusticated guise), a jet-black Lucite stem, and an engraved collar in silver and golden hues. The latter, along with the pipe’s namesake, is purportedly Greco-Roman in inspiration, as “Tevere” is the Italian name for the river Tiber, a very significant body of water as far a the last few millennia of Mediterranean history goes.

The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening and minor finish fading. The pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 6mm filters if desired (such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters) but will perform perfectly well without one.
