It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
Like the Bing’s Favorite, the Clark’s Favorite, and the Ginger’s Favorite, the Prince of Wales was one of Savinelli’s non-standard, specialty shapes, featuring a long stem and rather slender proportions. I say was, because, unlike the other three, the Prince of Wales was discontinued a good while ago. It’s a shame, really, as it’s a nice design, especially when you have examples as beautifully grained as this one.
The condition is good. Some inner rim charring and a few very slight scratches on the bowl. As with most modern Savinelli pipes, this one is chambered to allow for the use of 6mm filters, but will perform perfectly well without one.
