Savinelli Oscar Lucite 604 KS Smooth Oom Paul Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The “Oscar Lucite” is one of several Savinelli lines to have off and evolved from the very early Savinelli “Oscar.” Many of these lines are now discontinued, but Savinelli still continues to produce at least one line of pipes under the “Oscar” name, albeit in a very different form to the original. It appears that the Oscar Lucite, on the other hand, was in production until quite recently. Whether it will return is anyone’s guess but, in any case, this Oscar Lucite is a little different to its most recent iteration. Originally given its name due to its golden Lucite acrylic stem, in contrast to the Oscar’s vulcanite (ironically, the contemporary Oscar has a black acrylic stem), this older-production Oscar Lucite also wears a much lighter, natural finish compared to both the contemporary Oscar and the most recent Oscar Lucite. History lesson aside, it’s a nice, very modern Italian pipe, rendered in the very traditional “604 KS” Oom Paul.

The condition is very good. Minor rim darkening and a couple of worn out fills.
