Savinelli Mediterranea 673 KS Rusticated Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
Like so many Savinelli lines, the Mediterranea is no longer in production. It’s always a shame when that happens, but especially for lines like this one. Not only is the design very attractive, with a quintessentially Italian rustication recalling the very early Savinelli Capri finishes, it also has something that, to my knowledge, cannot be found on any Savinelli pipe today besides a couple of the Bing’s Favorite models: a genuine cumberland stem. It’s rare for Savinelli to use vulcanite these days, let alone cumberland, and in this case it pairs perfectly with the earthen tones of the bowl and the two brass accents inlaid in it.
The condition is very good. Some minor wear to the rim, and a small blemish on the base that looks to either be a natural imperfection in the briar. I see no issues in the chamber that might suggest an internal cause.
As with most modern Savinelli pipes, this one is chambered to allow for 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, but will perform perfectly well without one.
