Description

The House of Rattray was originally a tobacconist, opening in Perth, Scotland, in 1903, under the oversight of Charles Rattray. House of Rattray soon became a blending house (whose blends are still sold to this day under the Rattray’s name) and a purveyor of Rattray-brand pipes, made for the tobacconist by established English pipe makers. Over the years, the name changed hands, with contemporary Rattray’s pipes and tobaccos being produced under the umbrella of German’s Kopp company (formerly Kolhase & Kopp). Today, Rattray’s pipes are manufactured by various major European makers, such as Chacom and Butz-Choquin in France and Brebbia and L’anatra in Italy.

Named for a class of priests in pagan Celtic cultures, Rattray’s “The Druids” was a special, limited edition series of pipes released in the mid-2010s. While The Druids series included a handful of classic shapes, the production of each shape was confined to around 100-150 pieces in total, making such pipes rather difficult to get one’s hands on—especially if one had a specific shape in mind. These days, of course, finding one of Rattray’s The Druids pipes is even more difficult, given how long ago they were manufactured. This one is the shape 35 rendition, featuring a dazzling, deep contrast finish, a cumberland-style acrylic mouthpiece, and a silver collar engraved with a scene of the UK’s ancient Stonehenge monument.

This pipe is completely unsmoked. It comes with its original box and sleeve. The pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
