Peterson Deluxe Classic PSB 106 Sandblasted Billiard w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates

Out of stock

Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

Like Dunhill and its Ring Grain designation, Peterson has a separate, premium category for pipes with exceptionally fine sandblasted finishes, known as the “Peterson Special Blast,” or “PSB” for short. The sandblasting process for the latter is deliberately intended to be closer to the techniques of artisans, with close attention paid to creating deep, ring grain reliefs. If these labors are successful, a stummel will attain the PSB accolade and become part of one of Peterson’s higher grade ranges, such as the Deluxe Classic (seen here), with the additional premium conferred by that accolade. This 106 billiard rendition features remarkable finishing, with sandblasting so pronounced and crisp that it shines through even a near-black top coat.

The condition is great. Very minor inner rim darkening.
