Peterson 2008 Pipe of the Year Smooth Bent Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates

Description
Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.
Peterson has been making a limited edition Pipe of the Year annually since 1997. In 2008, Peterson fans were treated to what is arguably one of the most beautiful Pipe of the Year designs since that tradition began. The design is one of a tall, full bent billiard, with a warm, (in this instance) light brown finish over what appears to have been universally excellent grain across the 1000 pipes produced in total. Additionally, as seen here, the pipes featured ornate, Celtic silverwork, for a both a sterling cap and collar. While many of the most recent Pipe of the Year releases have been excellent, the 2008 nevertheless stands out as a paragon of luxury and collectability.
The condition is very good. Some wear to the finish on the inner rim and slight, residual oxidation on the pipe’s vulcanite stem. This pipe comes with its original presentation box and sleeve.
