Description
Orlik was an English pipe manufacturer founded in 1899 by Louis Orlik. While originally the company’s mission was to produce low-cost pipes, the make would ultimately be known for the distinctly high quality of their products. Consequently, Orlik pipes are today a favorite among pipe smokers and collectors, especially those who prefer the hobby’s Great British classics.
As with many renowned English and French makes, such as GBD, Comoy’s, and BBB, Orlik was, around 1980 acquired and merged via Cadogan Investments. This involved the consolidation of the manufacturing of Orlik pipes into the same London factories as other Cadogan-owned makes. Pipes from before this acquisition, aka pre-Cadogan pipes tend to be of greater interest to collectors, and with Orlik this is no different. This particular Orlik is a pre-Cadogan Deluxe model, as evinced not only by its nomenclature, but by the signature brass “O” inlay in its stem, which was replaced with a simple white stamp in the post-Cadogan era.
Dating aside, it’s a nice, classic bulldog in the traditional Anglo-French mold, with a very natural finish and pleasant bird’s-eye patterns.
The condition is very good. Minor darkening of the inner rim and slightly faded (though still legible) nomenclature.
