Man (Laxey) Rusticated African Block Meerschaum Estate Pipe, Unsmoked, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
The Man brand (and logo) was something of a play on words, being a make produced and sold by Laxey Pipes on the British Isle of Man. Laxey predominantly made meerschaum pipes, using African block meerschaum until near the end of the 20th century, when meerschaum mining operations in Africa ceased (by which point the Turkish export of raw block meerschaum had also been prohibited, all but sealing the fate of non-Turkish meerschaum pipes). Laxey was especially good at what they did, which is partly why so many briar pipe companies enlisted them to make African meerschaums to be sold under their own name, including Peterson, Barling, and Nording. This one is a very rustic, freehand style African meer, with more than a little reminiscence of certain contemporaneous Danish briars.
The condition is great, being at it’s unsmoked. Minor residual stem oxidation.
