Kurt Huhn Smooth Egg Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
While seemingly inactive these days, Kurt Huhn was a very popular American artisan in the 2000s and 2010s. In fact, he was even chosen to make the Pipe of the Year for pioneering forum alt.smokers.pipes in 2007. This pipe of his is highly distinctive in form, though this was very typical for Huhn’s output. As a carver, he was faithful to the ethos of letting a shape emerge from the briar as per the briar’s wishes, rather than sticking to a predetermined plan. As a result, Huhn’s pipes were often out of the ordinary, even compared to his emerging American peers. In the case of this curious, cutty-ish, stacked bent egg, it almost looks like there’s a Japanese or German influence—though I’m sure Huhn would simply say he was doing what the briar wanted.
The condition is great. Very minor wear to the inner rim.
