John Aylesbury 402 Smooth Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description

While not a pipe manufacturer per se, John Aylesbury is a German pipe distributor that has, at various times, commissioned high-quality pipes to be sold under the John Aylesbury name. These have included Peterson, Brebbia, Bentley, and even Les Wood of Ferndown. As this pipe has Holland stamped as its country of manufacture, I would guess that it had been manufactured by Hilson via Gubbels, a Dutch company similarly renowned for its high-quality, well priced pipes. This high-contrast billiard is testament to that, with its golden finish highlighting bursts of bird’s-eye that shine even brighter thanks to the pipe’s slender silver collar.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered to fit 9mm filters, whether charcoal, meerschaum, balsa, or indeed an adapter for non-filtered use.
