Description

Jarl pipes were made by Niels Mogens Jørgensen, a Danish pipe-maker in the 20th century. Jarl pipes were manufactured in Kolding, Denmark, not far from the factory of another Danish company, Bari. While Jarl pipes are less well known than Bari or other contemporaries, their designs were as innovative and distinctly ‘Scandinavian’ or ‘Danish’ as others in that tradition, without losing their own style and originality.

While Stanwell are the pipe brand that is perhaps most famous for their ‘acorn’ shapes (with Sixten Ivarsson being the most famous individual), there were plenty of other makers that explored this motif within and outside of Denmark, often to great effect. You won’t find this acorn on the Stanwell shape chart, for instance; it is its own thing, with a plump, conical bowl that’s been paired with a simple straight shank and tapered vulcanite stem. It’s a real mix of traditions, something that was more common in the earlier days of the Danish pipe-making movement, before more extravagant and avant-garde shapes became popular.

The pipe is well preserved; there are some minuscule tooth scratches on the end of the stem and some very minor inner rim darkening, but the pipe is otherwise quite mint.
