J Mouton Partially Sandblasted Lovat w/ Silver Handmade Briar Pipe, New

Description
Born and raised in the small town of Gueydan, Louisana, Jason Mouton’s rise in the ranks of American pipe makers has been nothing less than meteoric—and for good reason. Having crafted duck calls since he was a teenager, Mouton’s first forays into pipe making began with carving tampers. Mouton’s unexpected and substantial successes with these handmade tampers encouraged and allowed him to purchase the equipment needed to create pipes themselves. Studying the works of renowned American artisans such as J. Alan, Grant Batson, and Jared Coles, Mouton gradually developed his own pipe making craft, which was furthered by his exchanges with Greek artisan Chris Asteriou. Today, Mouton’s works are some of the most sought after on the artisan market, a demand which he has responded to—and not unlike his beginnings in carving tampers—by reinvesting his successes into an unwavering advancement of his skills and technique.
I don’t usually like to make our product listings about myself (not explicitly, at least), though in this instance I’ll make a small exception. The first pipe I bought from J. Mouton was a Lovat, a pipe not unlike this one, which I bought nearly five years ago. I’m very partial to long shank shapes, so it was a great fit for me, but even aside from that, the pipe is just perfect. The proportions, the balance, the button, the finishing—you name it, it’s perfect. And it hasn’t left my rotation since. Mouton was already excellent back then, though he’s managed to mature even further as a pipe maker in the last half-decade or so. When this Lovat landed on my desk, I felt that same struggle, that bind that every pipe seller feels when they have to prepare something that calls to them so that it can go to someone else. But that great mantra that the infamous Tony Montana should have stuck to—the one about not getting into “your own supply”—applies to people in the pipe trade too. Therefore, it is my duty to inform that this lightweight, dress-style Lovat, with its deep, consistent, ring grain sandblast, hand-cut ebonite stem, and silver collar, is indeed for sale. Exactly how long that will be the case for, though, I’m afraid I cannot predict.
