While many pipe makers come into the craft by way of pipe repairs and restoration, Domenico Giordano started his career at the opposite end of that same process—as a briar cutter. Briar cutters are an integral part of the manufacture of any briar pipe, being responsible for taking raw briar burl and sawing it into, on the one hand, blocks that will be suitable for pipe making, and sloughing off the parts of the burl that are not. Larger pipe companies will typically have a dedicated briar cutter working in-house, whereas artisans invest heavily in briar blocks from the most reputable independent cutters. One might say that the Giordano pipe workshop sprouted from Domenico Giordano’s cutting business as naturally as briar root sprouts from the tree heath.

This pipe is completely unsmoked. There are some very small, superficial scratches on the bowl, but nothing major.

The pipe is chambered to allow for 9mm filters, whether they are of the charcoal, meerschaum, or balsa variety, and should fit an adapter if non-filtered use is preferred.
