Faaborg Flame Grain B XL Smooth Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates, 9mm

Description

Faaborg pipes were made by Viggo Nielsen, one of the godfathers of Danish pipe design and the founder of Bari, in collaboration with his sons Jørgen Nielsen and Kai Nielsen. After Viggo sold the Bari make in 1978, Faaborg served as an outlet for Viggo’s continued desire to produce hand made pipes, which he and his sons did well into the last years of Viggo’s life.

It is hard to go wrong with a pipe from not one, but three masters of Danish pipe-making. Crafted by the Nielsen family in the late 20th century, this Faaborg Flame Grain Grade B (Faaborg, as with other Nielsen-family pipes, are graded alphabetically, in descending order, within their respective categories) certainly lives up to its grading, especially considering just how large the pipe is. Distinctly bulbous in the Scandinavian style, I’d consider it something like a “mini magnum,” or “pocket magnum,” with good, thick walls that’ll easily handle the long smokes it promises.

The condition is very good. Some inner rim darkening and slight finish fading. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
