Digby by GBD Conquest 9566 Smooth Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates

Out of stock

Description

Digby was a sub-brand made by GBD. GBD itself was founded in 1850 by the French trio Ganneval, Bondier & Donninger, before the brand was bought by English company Oppenheimer at the beginning of the 20th century. Retaining the name, Oppenheimer opened GBD factories in London and Paris to meet an increasing demand for the make’s high-quality and highly desirable pipes.

While GBD’s 9438 bullmoose is arguably the make’s most famous Rhodesian rendition, it was not the only stubby, chubby take on the shape in GBD’s catalog. The 9566 might well be considered the straight version of the 9438—not quite wide enough to be a bullcap, but certainly with enough heft to stand beside the moose. Based on the stamping, this should be a pre-1980s production, i.e., pre-Cadogan, as the shorthand goes.

The condition is fair. Some wear to the rim, some worn out fills, and some residual oxidation on the stem.
