Al Pascia Curvy Yellow Smooth Reverse Calabash Apple Estate Pipe, Unsmoked

Founded in 1906, Al Pascia is one of Italy’s most renowned pipe shops and, like any good pipe shop, they have house-brand pipes made for them by similarly renowned pipe makers.

The Al Pascia Curvy is one such pipe. In fact, in the contemporary, it is one of the most successful Al Pascia-brand pipes on the market today, to the point where getting one’s hands on one is typically very difficult. Periodically produced in limited batches, the Curvy is a very unorthodox design, but one that is nonetheless a genuine cult hit. Taking the form of a stubby, broad-bowled, and distinctly curvy apple, each Curvy model features a thick shank housing a hollow chamber, acting as a “reverse calabash.” Following the same principles as a classical calabash, this gives the smoke produced during use some extra space to dry and cool, reducing tongue burn and moisture build-up. Given the sheer demand for Curvy pipes, it is not surprising that they aren’t cheap, with this striking yellow iteration typically selling for just under €160, or approximately $185 each.

This one is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, having come to us in a new old stock batch from another shop in Europe that recently shuttered. I will include some notes on disassembly from Al Pascia’s own listings below, as they contain key information regarding the pipe:

“The mouthpiece isn’t dismantled like a traditional pipe, by twisting the pin and pulling it out; rather, it’s removed by simply moving it up and down, thanks to the conical shape of the pin. To reassemble it, simply reinsert it and apply light pressure. Cleaning is very simple: at the end of the day or after each smoke (depending on personal preference), simply disassemble the mouthpiece and wipe the inside of the expansion chamber with a simple paper towel. Thanks to the large conical bore, there are no inaccessible or difficult-to-clean parts.”
