Cavalier

The Cavalier is one of the oldest forms in tobacco-pipe design, with roots often connected to traditional Tyrolean and Central European pipes. Its defining feature is a shank that extends below the bowl, creating a lower reservoir that may help collect moisture during a smoke.

On traditional Cavaliers, the bottom of the extended shank is often fitted with a removable foot or cap for cleaning. Modern pipe makers have interpreted the design in many ways, from relatively faithful briar versions to highly sculptural shapes influenced by Danish and Japanese freehand traditions.

Cavalier pipes may be made from briar, meerschaum, porcelain, or other materials and can feature smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, or carved finishes. MBSD’s changing selection may include traditional factory pipes, contemporary work by individual pipe makers, and both new and estate examples.
