The Bulldog is one of the most recognizable traditional tobacco pipe shapes. Its defining features are a broad, diamond-like or biconical bowl, one or more beadlines around the bowl’s widest point, and a diamond-shaped shank and stem. Bulldogs may be straight, quarter-bent, or deeply bent while retaining these fundamental design elements.
The Bulldog is closely related to the Rhodesian. Traditionally, the diamond shank distinguishes a Bulldog from a Rhodesian, which typically has a round or oval shank. Pipe makers have interpreted both shapes in many ways, however, so the terminology is not always applied consistently.
Bulldog pipes can have smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, or mixed finishes because the name refers to the shape rather than the surface treatment. MBSD’s selection may include new, estate, and unsmoked estate Bulldogs from English, French, Danish, Italian, American, and other pipe-making traditions.
