Kaywoodie (1950s/60s) Super Grain 70B Smooth Belgian Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Description

Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

The shape “70B” was introduced to Kaywoodie’s catalogs around the mid-century, where it remained until the end of the 1960s. It’s a peculiar design; Kaywoodie’s catalogs refer to it as a “Belgian” (likely in reference to the Belge shape) though most today would likely refer to it as a “cutty”; it’s also very “old world” in form, being very long slender, and lightweight, much like the cutty shapes that emulated clay pipes during the inception of the modern briar. In any case, this peculiarity does no detriment to the pipe. Rather, it works very much to the pipe’s favor, being distinct, graceful, and eminently traditional. It’s also, in my experience, very rare, making for quite a treat for collectors. As this pipe was made around the mid-century, it features Kaywoodie’s Drinkless stinger and Synchro-Stem fitment.

This pipe is also completely unsmoked.
